I would have stayed longer but the end of trail IS the viewing area and others were arriving and I didn't want to be crowded(pandemic). I would say that a person with a walker or cane could navigate with patience. One of our favorite beaches, Pfeiffer Beach is not far away. There is a small stair to access trail, so it is not wheelchair accessible. The trail is more of a packed dirt sidewalk vs a "trail". Pay $10/car at self check in and it is an easy 10min walk to viewing area. Easy mistake because Big Sur park does have a "waterfall" trail. During high tide, it is a tidefall, a waterfall that empties directly into the ocean. If you are traveling south on Hwy 1 from Monterey/Carmel area, go past Pfeiffer Big Sur about 10-15 minutes to Julia Pfeiffer Burns park. McWay Falls is an 80-foot-tall (24 m) waterfall on the coast of Big Sur in central California that flows year-round from McWay Creek in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, about 37 miles (60 km) south of Carmel, into the Pacific Ocean. Published This hike through Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is less than one mile and brings visitors to one of Californias most beautiful waterfalls. Had tried a month earlier but went to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park instead of Julie Pfeiffer Burns State Park. I would expect that this would be an excellent sunset spot as it looks to the west. The reason of closure is due to people making it more known on the internet, thus more people surfing there. Limekiln State Park - a few easy trails through a 2nd growth redwood forest, also some beach access. There is a sandbar in the middle that is visible during low tide (apparently you can walk to it ). Sand Dollar Beach - nice sandy beach, short, but steep trail to the beach. Park in the designated lot, and walk west towards Highway 1 and look for signs for the waterfall trail. The beach itself was small (even though were were there at low tide), and even in late Sept it was populated with kids/parents and grandparents because of the mild surf and the shallow waters. The waterfall happens to be located at the end of one of Big Sur’s shortest trails, making it easily accessible to all. There were immaculately clean restrooms available at the beach also. Fuller beach in Big Sur closed Im not a local and understand why local wanna keep it as a secret. He highlighted the importance of each and suggested the best place to sit on the beach. ![]() There was a man at the entrance to the beach in the parking lot that was speaking to everyone to heighten their awareness of social distancing and mask wearing. This lovely small beach is frequented by locals and has a focus on safety and health during the COVID crisis. Located on the stretch of highway between Big Sur and Carmel, Point Lobos is home to a series of beaches awash with tide pools, lounging sea lions, and thousands of seabirds. ![]()
